Getting There It won't be easy getting to our tropical island resort. You'll have to travel over thousands of miles of ocean just to get to Indonesia and take planes, taxis and speedboats once you get here. You'll probably get tired, grumpy, hungry, thirsty and probably catch a sniffle! Not everything will go according to plan and if you don't consider yourself flexible and laid back, don't even bother. There are other tropical island resorts probably closer to where you live. In that case, why should ANYBODY bother? That is exactly the point. If it was easy, everybody'd be doin' it! As it is, in 2010, we only accept 14 guests at a time and only 10 surfing guests, who have the entire island resort to themselves! We make your life and holiday much easier by guiding and transporting you through the various adventures that you will experience along the way. In order to get to our beautiful island in the middle of nowhere, deep in the Indian Ocean, here's what you can expect: International flights You organize your own, but we have an recommended agent near you to take care of your flights and travel insurance. Click on the flights button at left for more info. Taxis Once you get off the plane and through customs and immigration, we take care of you all the way. You will be met by a WavePark representative at the airport who will help you get to your pre-booked hotel, or direct to your marine transport, the next step to get to our tropical island resort. Transfers from the airport to hotel and back again are included in your price, as is the guide. Inter-island Speedboats Your daily price includes transport to and from the Mentawai Islands. In 2010 we will be using a combination speedboats to get you to the resort, depending on the size of the group you have booked with. There are 2 speedboats that we regularly charter to get our guests to the island and back again. Makalauna

Public ferries There are about 5 ferries that operate in our region. The two ferries we use most often for scheduling convenience is:
The Sumber has been our workhorse for years and delivers our fresh fruit and vegetable cargo every week. it remains to this day the classic Indo Ferry experience. The ferry can hold 180-200 people + cargo. Sumber is about11 years old. The Sumber takes 10 hours to cross the channel, and will go in most weather.
The AmbuAmbu is the largest most reliable ferry in the Mentawais, bar none. Able to transport any bulldozers, cranes, buses etc., the Ambu2 has been designed to get Mentawai a head start in development. Accommodation is either in rented cabins from the crew of the boat, VIP air conditioned lounge with a rented mattress on the floor, or economy which is a typical Indonesian ferry experience. Although not ideal for overnight transport, the Ambu2 can take on almost any sea, and still arrive on time. We wish the Mentawai government would get another one like it, but with BEDS. Speedboats
We are standing by to make your dreams a reality. |
